“Healing the Heart and the Mind.”
Welcome to New Day Group! I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Attachment Trauma-informed Art Therapist. For over 16 years, I’ve been empowering clients to live more authentic and joyful lives.
I’m passionate about Brainspotting, a new form of brain-body therapy that accesses subcortical, or unconscious parts of the brain, where trauma is frozen and ultimately released. It is a powerful combination of EMDR and Somatic Experiencing developed by David Grand, PhD.
My practice includes Interpersonal Neurobiology with Attachment Theory. It’s based on how to heal our earliest relationships with our caregivers, which created brain patterns impacting all future relationships leading to either Secure, Ambivalent, Avoidant, or Disorganized Attachment Styles.
Another passion is working with Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP) helping them build brain resiliency and learn tools for increasing self-regulation of overwhelming emotions and triggers.
HSPs form about 15-20% of the population. HSPs experience sensory information and stimulus more deeply than others, creating increased sensitivity to their surroundings. HSPs often suffer from anxiety and higher stress levels in a world that feels overwhelming.
Art Therapy tells a story about our internal life not expressed by words alone. Art therapy empowers us to release stress, increase self-esteem, creatively problem-solve, improve wellness, and provide safe communication meaningfully through imagery. It is a wonderful and safe method to communicate non-verbally what may feel too frightening to express through words. Art therapy is effective for all ages.
Engaging in the creative process, connects us to a wiser and truer self, much like shining a light in the dark. Creative expression is healing in itself and no prior art experience is needed.
I obtained my Masters in Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where I studied Transpersonal Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic, Object Relations, Gestalt Therapy, Expressive Arts, Sandplay, and others.
I later attended Philips Graduate University for my Post-Grad Credential in Art Therapy, with a focus on Psychoneuroimmunology or how stress impacts our immune system, and Interpersonal Neurobiology.
Other modalities I practice are: Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Schema Therapy, Existential, Transpersonal, Gestalt, and others.
I work with adults and children in individual, group, couples, or family therapy.
Past experiences include: CHOC Children’s Hospital Orange County, Del Amo Behavioral Hospital, Epilepsy Foundation of Greater LA, VA Palo Alto Healthcare System Polytrauma Center, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, College Hospital, and Chapman University Student Psychological Counseling Services.
