Dr. Begel received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Yale University, where he also completed his residency in Psychiatry. He offers help for a wide variety of problems, from mild to severe. Dr. Begel is both fully versed in the classics of his field and up to date on the latest methods of diagnosis, psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. Dr. Begel incorporates a variety of approaches in his work, including insight oriented psychotherapy, brief therapy, mindfulness and other specific cognitive behavioral techniques, medication, and a family systems perspective. Dr. Begel understands that his patients want solutions, however complex their issues may be, and so he tailors his work to their individual needs, preferences, and circumstances. Dr. Begel offers kindness, safety, insight, clarity, and hope.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Begel pioneered the medical subspecialty of Sport Psychiatry, writing the seminal paper in this field, editing the first textbook, and founding the first professional society. On the side, he does research in the area of acoustic psychometry, the measurement of mental states using speech acoustics.
